Rick use to frequent a local coffee shop "Shelby's" in Neptune Beach, Florida.
They had live music there on different days and nights and Rick wanted to do a solo performance there.
It had been years since Rick had performed in public and the idea sounded harmless. Rick approached Steve Hicks the manager of Shelby's. Steve said that they couldn't pay anything, but Rick was welcome to come out one night for an audition. Steve was satisfied with what he heard and Rick performed as a solo act there every Thursday night.
Rick's brother Robert Arcusa and many of his friends would come out to have coffee and join in on the fun.
Rick's longtime friend and drummer Danny Southworth wanted to perform also.
The three of us performed together and consequently, brought in more business for Shelby's.
Winter gave way to warmer weather. Steve asked Rick to think about starting a new event outside in the courtyard on Friday nights and will promote it as, "Music in the Courtyard".
This was the birth of their first name, "The Arcusa Brothers Band". They did one gig together as a four piece with Richard Looke on bass. It didn't last long. Richard was in bad health and had to leave the band and soon after Robert had to leave the band due to employment conflicts.
They pushed on and kept "Music in the Courtyard" alive with new musicians, our manager Vanya Arcusa on keyboards, Keith Stanton on bass, Kevin Dunn on mandolin and Susan Daicoff on guitar and vocals, changed the name to, "The Rick Arcusa Band" and continued to perform in the courtyard.
Over the past 12 years, the band has undergone many endeavors and personnel changes.
We have been blessed by God to have many great local musicians grace our stage.
